Pt 6. Free Indeed

May 17, 2026    John Dixon

This powerful message explores the paradox at the heart of Christian freedom: we are called to be free, yet true freedom comes not from doing whatever we want, but from being anchored in God's love. Drawing from Galatians 5, we're challenged to examine whether our pursuit of freedom has actually led us into new forms of bondage. The sermon confronts our cultural obsession with autonomy and asks a penetrating question: has unlimited freedom made us more free, or have we become the most addicted, anxious, and isolated generation in history? The testimony of one woman's journey through physical injury, loss, and healing beautifully illustrates the struggle between trying to control our own lives and surrendering to God's redemptive work. We're reminded that the gospel is indeed a liberation story, but not the kind our culture promises. Jesus doesn't just release us from captivity and wish us luck; He adopts us. The difference is profound: released means you're on your own, but adopted means you have a Father, a name, and you belong. When we truly grasp that we are loved with a love we didn't earn and can't lose, we become free to serve others humbly in love, no longer driven by fear or the need to prove ourselves. This is the freedom Christ died to give us: not freedom to indulge every desire, but freedom to become who we were truly made to be.
