Born From Above

What does it truly mean to be born again? This exploration of John 3 takes us deep into one of Jesus's most profound conversations with Nicodemus, a religious leader who came seeking truth under cover of darkness. When Jesus tells him that no one can see or enter the kingdom of God without being born again, He's not talking about a physical rebirth but something far more revolutionary. The Greek word palingenesia, meaning regeneration, reveals that being born again means experiencing God's future power to restore all things brought into our present reality. It's the same transformative energy that will one day wipe away every tear and defeat every evil, now working within our hearts today. This isn't about religious performance or moral improvement. It's about receiving divine life from above, a spiritual rebirth that we cannot manufacture ourselves. Just as the Israelites in the wilderness could only look at the bronze serpent to be healed from deadly venom, we are invited simply to look to Jesus. Faith begins when we stop trying to save ourselves and turn our gaze toward Christ. This new birth transforms how we see the world, enabling us to recognize God's kingdom breaking into the present and compelling us to live as people of the future, bringing tomorrow's love and justice into today's broken places.
